Transitions are difficult, especially for military personnel, their spouses, and veterans. Spouses move from job to job, place to place with military personnel, sometimes within the span of a few months. This often interrupts career continuity and limits the growth needed to advance their careers. Other times they face stigma because of gaps in their career experience when they are unable to find opportunities.

For military veterans seeking to return to the civilian workforce, job searching is just as difficult. Military job experiences translate into civilian job terms differently. For example, the experience of a “squad leader” is equivalent to that of a shift supervisor. As such, many have a hard time transitioning back into civilian life in spite of their military experience, leadership, and technical skills.
